Google is shutting down the online store it launched with much fanfare in January to sell the Nexus One smartphone, the technology giant said on Friday.Google had hoped the direct sales initiative for what was widely called the “Google phone” would launch a new business model for the U.S. cellphone industry, by persuading buyers to purchase phones independently from the major carriers.

Currently the vast majority of cellphone purchases are subsidized by the carriers in return for customers locking in to a two year contract.The device is sold unlocked (not restricted to use on a single network provider). Google currently offers it for use on the T-Mobile and AT&T networks in the United States; a version for use on Vodafone (European) networks was announced on 26 April 2010, available in the UK on 30 April 2010.

Youtube roped in HSBC as the main sponsor for the IPL. Now it seems the laundry list of sponsors just grew by half a dozen. Leading the line-up of Premium sponsors are Royal Challenger’s IPL team, HSBC India, and HP India. Among other top brands taking the sponsorship slots include Airtel, Coca Cola and Samsung.

Google has announced the list of sponsors now for its first main sports event which will be streamed live on YouTube. Royal Challengers IPL Team, HSBC India & HP India will be the premium sponsors along with some other big names like Airtel, Coca Cola and Samsung who have also taken the key sponsorship slots.

Sponsors’ ads will appear throughout the 60-match tournament, across several ad formats, including pre-roll and mid-roll ads, YouTube homepage ads and banner ads next to the Live player and on video watch pages.

IPL spots on youtube have been sold in slots of normal matches and the semi final and final matches. sony move: PS3 motion controller

Move is Sony's bid to gain control over the motion controller wars that are currently led by Nintendo, with its Wii controller, and which many think will be dominated by Microsoft and its Project Natal controller system.

The big Sony press conference is underway, and as expected, their motion controller is the star of the show. The motion controller will be called the Move, not the Gem or Arc as suspected, and you can use two of them (or one and a nunchuk-like non-ball-topped controller) simultaneously to, say, box or use a sword and shield.

To Sony, releasing the Move is an obvious move for the PlayStation, given it believes it started the motion controller era with its Eye Toy. Sony held its press conference during the Game Developers Conference here.

Latency is “under one frame,” so probably around 30ms. They’re showing off how it works with a few launch games. 3rd person fighters, more casual stuff, and soon we’ll probably be seeing some FPS style games as well like Red Steel 2.

Corey Haim, a 1980s teen heartthrob whose career was blighted by drug abuse, has died. He was 38. Haim died at Providence St Joseph Medical Centre in Burbank yesterday, Los Angeles County coroner's Lt Cheryl MacWillie said.

"As he got out of bed, he felt a little weak and went down to the floor on his knees," Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said. His mother called paramedics. An autopsy will determine cause of death. There was no evidence of foul play, police Sgt Michael Kammert said.

Haim was never married. He was once engaged to actress Nicole Eggert.he collaborated numerous times with Corey Feldman, the pair being dubbed "The Two Coreys". Haim and Feldman starred in a TV reality show titled The Two Coreys,which aired on the A&E Network from July 2007 to August 2008.

"This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family and best friend," he said in a statement. "I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived," Feldman said.

The government on Sunday expressed the hope that the Women's Reservation Bill, 2008 would be passed in the current session of Parliament despite opposition from some political parties.Several women MPs blamed the "absolutely disastrous" floor management for the pandemonium in Rajya Sabha which led to the Women's Reservation Bill being derailed.

BJP MP Najma Heptullah said the responsibility lies with the Parliamentary Affairs Minister and the whips. "They should have ensured floor management...The floor management was absolutely disastrous," she said.

Describing the Bill as a “political blunder,'' RJD president Lalu Prasad said in Patna that it was a conspiracy hatched by both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress to suppress representation of women belonging to the Other Backward Classes, the Scheduled Tribes/Scheduled Castes and Muslim communities.

But there was no call for notes when she took to the stage for a stint of stand-up comedy on the show - in a parody of Leno's famous opening monologues.

After Palin told Leno that her dream used to be to become a sportscaster, “to work with Howard Cosell” (man, would I love to have seen the late, great Cosell trade remarks in a sports booth), he invited her to do a little stand-up comedy.

I guess the idea was just to have some silly fun. There’s no point in saying her gags were bad (“I’m glad I didn’t become vice president — I wouldn’t know what to do with all that free time”) when doing corny jokes was the whole point.

Pfizer Inc. and Medivation Inc. said Dimebon, their experimental drug for Alzheimer’s disease, failed to benefit patients in an advanced study.Recently dimebolin has attracted renewed interest after being shown to have positive effects on persons suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

The trial, dubbed Connection, included almost 600 patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease from across the U.S., Europe and South America. The results counter a small, earlier study conducted in Russia that found patients getting Dimebon improved across five areas, including thinking, memory, activities of daily living, behavior and overall function.

The negative results for Dimebon, a 27-year-old hay fever treatment, are the latest setback in efforts to find a way to slow the most common form of dementia in elderly people. It could have generated more than $5 billion in annual sales if it proved effective, said Raghuram Selvaraju, head of health-care research at Hapoalim Securities USA Inc., in New York.

Earlier, Dimebolin is an orally-active small molecule compound that has been shown to inhibit brain cell death in preclinical studies of Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease, making it a potential treatment for these and other neurodegenerative diseases. Research suggests that it may also have cognition-enhancing effects in healthy individuals, in the absence of neurodegenerative disease pathology.

“We are surprised and disappointed,” said David Hung, chief executive officer of San Francisco-based Medivation, in a telephone interview. “We’re trying to figure out what happened in the study and decide how to move forward. This is obviously one battle in our war against Alzheimer’s disease.”

Alzheimer's disease (AD), also called Alzheimer disease, Senile Dementia of the Alzheimer Type (SDAT) or simply Alzheimer's, is the most common form of dementia. Air crash in Hyderabad

A plane crashed during an airshow in Hyderabad.Reports suggest that it was a Kiran MK-II aircraft belonging to the Sagar Kiran contingent of the Indian Navy.The pilot and the co-pilot were killed in the crash.The Navy Chief said that contrary to earlier claims by eyewitnesses, neither pilot managed to eject from the plane.

A plane taking part in an air show freefell in seconds, nosediving from the sky straight into a three-storey building near Begumpet airport.Two Navy pilots died and Four persons were injured when a Navy plane crashed at an international aviation exhibition and hit a building in a residential area near Begumpet airport in Hyderabad.

The aircraft, part of the Navy's aerobatics team that uses four trainers, was unable to pull up from a dive and went into a spiral as the planes were breaking away from the formation and going at different directions.The air show began at 11:05 am and 15 minutes into the air show one of the aircraft was seen breaking away.

As preparations for the Zuma Film Festival 2006 firms up in Nigeria, the capital city of Abuja is gearing up for the thousands of guests that are expected to attend the film festival. The festival, with a new name and unprecedented government support, is to celebrate "Nollywood", the growing Nigerian film industry, and to showcase indigenous films.
According to the Zuma Film Festival Director, John Oluwagbemiga, series of activities have already been lined up to make this maiden edition of Nigeria's National film festival exciting and a delight to attend. The events of the festival which would include the opening ceremony, workshops, screenings, film business forum, legal clinic and award night were billed to hold at the Le Meridien Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria.
